Dow Academy

The Dow Academy is a historic school building located on Academy Street in Franconia, New Hampshire, United States. The Georgian Revival wood frame building was built in 1903 in a public-private partnership between the town's school district and the trustees of the Dow Academy, which was established in 1884 and whose previous building had been destroyed by fire. The building served as Franconia's high school until 1958.〔(【引用サイトリンク】 title=NRHP nomination for Dow Academy )
Between 1963 and 1977 Dow Academy was a part of Franconia College and anchored the college's Lower Campus. Dow served as the primary facility for the Theater, Dance, and Ceramics departments, and housed the Sculpture Department until the fall of 1975. Throughout most its existence, Franconia College was the leading institution for progressive, alternative higher education in the United States.
The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982.〔 It has been converted into residential use, but the building's signature clock and bell belong to the children of Franconia.
